Saint Petersburg
Royalty, Forgotten
Winnie Denker was the first photographer to visit Saint Petersburg after the fall of the Berlin Wall. On assignment with UNESCO, she was struck by the terrible situation on the ground. Among the grandeur and of the buildings, the extreme cold and the immense riches of the Hermitage collections, she found all the necessary elements for her photographic expression. She spent a lot of time constructing each image and considering each frame. The photographs of St Petersburg can be viewed as testimony, heritage or more simply, as art in their own right.
